Dr James Pritchard

James has been an executive coach since 1989. He brings analytical and process skills to help clients reach a clear perspective on the issues they face and on how to move forward. He places particular emphasis on working with executives in their corporate context, so as to help the individual develop and the organisation realise strategic goals.

James has BSc and PhD degrees in engineering, is qualified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and is a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. He is also an accredited mediator. He is co-author of "Teamwork for Primary and Shared Care" (Oxford University Press 1992, 2nd ed. 1994, Finnish translation 1999). He is an individual member of the European Coaching and Mentoring Council (EMCC) and subscribes to their code of conduct.

During the 1980's he worked for Esso UK in a range of roles, including strategic planning of all refined product distribution and Exxon Chemical Research, where his responsibilities were to represent Exxon on international industry groups in Europe and the United States; provide an internal resource to facilitate the testing and approval process for lubricant formulations and initiate and manage various new product development projects.

James has been an executive coach for the past 16 years and his work often involves coaching as part of a strategic process. He has worked with the Chief executive, Chair and HR director of an NHS Trust to develop and implement an organisational development strategy and improve performance to 3 star status.

In the construction industry he worked as part of a team delivering a leadership development programme to the top management of a large multinational organisation (£1.8bn turnover) -his specific responsibility was for coaching directors and senior managers.

James has also worked with the Director and senior managers of the Neighbourhood & Housing Services directorate of a local authority to develop a vision and business strategy for a newly merged division. He was part of a team engaged in a whole area change programme for the Probation Service, to provide an integrated change process, develop an effective senior management team and support middle managers in their role and task of front line implementation. James also worked at all levels to facilitate a change programme involving the introduction of the first joint services control centre (fire, police, ambulance) in the UK.

In telecommunications James worked with senior management, individually and in teams during the merger of three acquisitions into a major mobile telecoms provider. Facilitating offsite meetings to re-focus the new organisation. Advising and facilitating the top management teams of a telecommunications group and joint defence agencies to improve communications and relationships in a joint venture PFI scheme worth £2bn
