Joanna Foster CBE

Joanna joined Oxford Executive Coaching with an impressive leadership history herself and wide ranging experience in working with other leaders and their teams in a variety of organisations, both nationally and internationally.

Joanna's currently chairs two boards: the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, NHS Trust in Oxford and the Crafts Council.

She formerly chaired the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Lloyds TSB Foundation, and the BT Forum and was Director of The National Work Life Forum. Having been Deputy Chair of Oxford Brookes University, she is now on the Board of the Open University's Foundation. Joanna has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from a number of different universities.

Joanna has lived and worked in France (based at INSEAD the international business school) and in the USA where she worked with senior managers and their families. She has always championed the importance to individuals and to their organisations, of striving to successfully manage work-life balance issues. She continues to do this in her coaching practice, and, along with governance and leadership issues, finds it is very often a major concern for both men and women.

Joanna sees coaching as an invaluable tool for helping individuals, or teams, produce their best performance; helping them to think through their options, both professionally and personally; helping them to re-evaluate their life and their contribution and then supporting them in their decision and development. In progressing through different and sometimes difficult changes in her own life - a new job, a new culture or a new family situation, Joanna has always valued the personal and professional support of people who have encouraged her to stand back and take stock. She now feels very privileged to be able to support clients as they try to be true to themselves and struggle with the complexities and pressures of change and the challenges of trying to balance a high-performing working life with having a fulfilling and satisfactory personal and family life.
