| During those 30 years from 1967 - 1998 in the Department of Trade and Industry and its predecessor departments, she gained considerable and varied experience as a senior civil servant advising ministers on a wide range of policy issues, in particular regional, industrial and business policy which changed and developed considerably over that period, and most recently, regeneration of the North East of England. Her experience includes handling complex and sensitive issues; developing and implementing policy; responding flexibly to new developments; negotiating with a wide range of interests in the UK and internationally; working in partnership with people from all walks of life from senior opinion formers in business and local government to community groups; managing change, merging cultures and developing staff to meet stretching targets and improve the delivery of services to customers; handling public presentations and consultations and dealing with the media.
Since leaving the civil service in 1998, Pamela has built up a portfolio of activities including Chair of PNE, an independent enterprise agency; vice chair of Newcastle Primary Care Trust; deputy chair of the board of governors of Sunderland University and a trustee of its Development Trust; and Chair of Local Governors Central Newcastle High School GDST (her old school) from 2001 to 2006. She is a Trustee of Age Concern Newcastle and served for 3 years as a trustee of Age Concern England.
She is a board member of the Community Foundation serving Tyne and Wear and Northumberland and through its Community Ventures project coaches leaders in the voluntary sector.
After undertaking a number of consultancy projects (including reviews of the Insolvency Service and ACAS for the DTI), she is delighted to be working as an Executive Coach and to have the opportunity to contribute from her wide experience to enable others to develop their potential as leaders in their organisations.
